CONCEPTUAL DESIGN in Model Code 2020 for New and Existing Structures

Summary: Conceptual Design is a very important stage in the design process. Without good concepts/ideas it is not
possible to produce a good design. Conceptual Design is not taught at the civil engineering schools and
it is not present in our codes.
Model Code 201 0 has, for the first time in a code, a conceptual design subchapter in the design part.
Model code 2020 will maintain this subchapter and will improve the content to emphasize the importance
of this stage in the design process.
In this presentation the conceptual design ideas are presented as they are in model code 2010 and as most
probably will be in the Model Code 2020 illustrated with examples.
